Scared Straight Based

WIRED reports that Americans who fled to Europe in protest against Trump are now “sheepishly confessing” that life isn’t exactly what they expected in the land of cobblestones and bad teeth. “The quality of life is significantly lower” in Europe, one expat admitted: dishwashers and dryers are rare “luxuries,” the UK’s famously “free” healthcare is… not free, given the absurd taxes... and, per one guy who moved to Berlin, the lack of trifles like “freedom of speech” bums him out. Most of the expats spoke under condition of anonymity, fearing a “backlash” from Americans calling them fascist for missing capitalism. “I felt perhaps I had overreacted” to Trump, one guy stranded in Poland admitted. Lol. It’s like ‘Scared Straight’ for leftists (someone please turn this into a TV show??). You guys are allowed to trade the Motherland for creaky medieval flats, tiny servings, and no A/C — but we’re gonna film it.

Even Elon Wants More Than One

Building AI into your product? Elon recently announced Grok Bot will send each task to whichever model does it best, including top competitor Claude. If the literal Trillionaire Flying Car Inventor GigaGenius doesn’t do it all in-house, you probably shouldn’t either. That’s why Merge built one context layer that connects enterprise products to every major model and thousands of agent tools, from Slack to Salesforce. Product leaders at OpenAI, Ramp and Perplexity trust Merge to complete tasks faster and cheaper, keep every connection secure, and track all AI spend in one place.

Netflix’s House of Cards

Last week, Netflix laid off about 1,000 people, 6% of its workforce. With the stock down more than 40% in a year, analysts blame slowing growth, sagging engagement, and YouTube. But for a decade, Wall Street applauded as Netflix fattened its margins like a tech company. Revenue nearly tripled while executives slowed content investment. Under this regime, the pursuit of prestige television naturally gave way to an infinite global slop buffet of things to half-watch while doomscrolling Reels with your situationship (Love is Blind season 72, anyone?). Netflix execs should have listened to Frank Underwood, their last great creation: “Money is the McMansion in Sarasota that starts falling apart after 10 years. Power is the old stone building that stands for centuries.” Long live Disney, man. In a hundred years, when Netflix and a dozen other pretenders have come and gone, Cinderella Castle will still tower over Orlando.

1-800-NOT-A-DAYCARE

Committing fraud is a risky endeavor: sure, you might get exposed by a kid in a hoodie on his YouTube channel and eventually prosecuted for running a fake hospice clinic. However, in the case of Elizabeth Holmes, you might also get a cool satirical documentary made about you, where the entire world gets to check out your husband’s above-average penis. Anyways, the White House has announced its latest initiative to crack down on government fraud: a new tip line that pays whistleblowers up to $30,000 if a tip leads to a fraud conviction. It’s sort of a good news, bad news situation for immigrants of a CERTAIN (Somalia) country in Africa, and we’ll start with the bad: running fake charities is becoming an increasingly volatile means of getting rich (heartbreaking). The good news? There’s a new way to cash those sweet government checks! You just have to tell the truth about your cousin’s “daycare center.”
