Now, this is the best part of my story. Let's recap my last email:
Now, this is the best part of my story. Let's recap my last email:
- The first two weeks of the month were busy
- I had more work than time
- I gradually developed a specific process to streamline my workbooks
- Now it only took 2 days (instead of 2 weeks)
- I had more time than work
It wasn't Excel itself that made the difference, It was the specific approach and skills I had developed.
At this point, the main thing I was hired to do (close the books each month) was fairly automated. And since much of the process was streamlined, I actually looked forward to the monthly close. It was ... fun!
And since I had more time than work, I used the extra time to automate other projects as well. Not just my projects, but projects for other people in other departments. Commissions. Payroll. Patent tracking. And more.
As a result, my reputation grew as the person who was able to automate stuff. As such, my job security increased.
And, I'm not gonna lie ... my efforts were rewarded in my annual review and pay :-)
I was super excited about how much work I could get Excel to do and I wanted to share it with others.
And that is what I do through Excel University. I create content (both free and paid) to help people learn how to use Excel to work faster.
My free content includes a weekly Excel tips newsletter which I'll send to you as well. I call the newsletter the Sparkline, because it is a play on an Excel feature the provides information in a concise format.
My paid content includes a formal training program that provides a step-by-step way to learn how to use Excel to save time like I did.
But, the path to creating Excel University wasn't easy. So, in my next email, I'll share a bit about this journey and also provide some advice based on the lessons learned.
Thanks
Jeff
