My best advice

Jeff Lenning
John

Let's talk about the journey to Excel University, lessons learned, and my best advice. A quick recap:
  • I had more work than time and was stressed out.
  • I developed a process and skills to streamline the monthly close.
  • Now, I could close the books in 2 days instead of 2 weeks.
  • I took what I learned and automated other projects in the company.
  • My job security and pay increased dramatically.
I wanted to help others do the same thing I did ... use Excel to work faster. So, I wrote an Excel article and submitted it to the Journal of Accountancy. To my surprise, they published it. You can check out the archive of it here.

And here is a condensed list of the events that followed. I ...
  • Started teaching an Excel night class at a local computer store.
  • Started teaching Excel for my state CPA society.
  • Started teaching Excel nationally for several organizations.
  • Kept writing more Excel articles for magazines.
  • Presented hundreds of live training sessions across the United States.
  • Started an Excel blog.
  • Wrote 4 Excel books, now available on Amazon.
  • Started Excel University.
  • Developed a library of on-demand training courses.
  • Became a NASBA approved CPE sponsor.
  • Became a Microsoft Certified Trainer.
  • Was awarded the Microsoft MVP.
This was my Excel journey. It wasn't easy. There were challenges at every step. I learned many lessons along the way.

So, I created this short video that contains my best advice. I hope you get a chance to check it out.
In my next email, I'll talk about the 3-step framework I developed to help people learn Excel and work faster. It is the culmination of everything I learned about how to use Excel to work faster.

Thanks
Jeff
