CKEditor 5 v49.0.0 is a major release built for compliance-heavy enterprise systems. The editor can now run inside a shadow root, opening a clean path into web components, micro-frontends, and design systems. It also works in applications that enforce Trusted Types, with no need to weaken the security policy or add exceptions for the editor.

The default theme has been refreshed on a new system of design tokens for easier customization, and AI Review has been redesigned so its proposed changes can be added as tracked suggestions.

Catching up on CKEditor 5 v48

The v48 releases brought a long list of new features and improvements. Among the highlights, v48.4.0 introduces the Context Library, so the AI works from your organization’s own prompts and reference files, and adds image understanding.

Earlier, v48.3.0 opened CKEditor AI to your code with a programmatic API, so you can run document processing, review, and translation without the editor interface. It also brought production-ready AI support to multi-root and multiple editor setups. Finally, v48.2.0 extended CKEditor AI to editors using General HTML Support.

Security Releases for CKEditor 5 and the LTS Edition

CKEditor 5 v49.0.1, v48.5.3 and LTS v47.7.6, along with the earlier v48.5.1 and LTS v47.7.4, resolve cross-site scripting vulnerabilities, and we recommend updating as soon as possible. The standard and LTS releases carry the same fixes, so update to the one that matches your setup.

CKBox: File Versioning & a Refreshed UI

CKBox 2.12 and 2.13 bring a refreshed interface, PDF thumbnails, and file versioning. When you update a file, CKBox now keeps its full history while the URL and metadata stay intact.
