Loki Checkout goes open source
A truely flexible and performant for everyone in Magento
Loki Checkout goes open source
Hi
I'm excited to tell you this: Loki Checkout is now open source. With love for the Magento community.
Two years of development
Two years ago we started building a checkout for Magento that had to be bloody fast, flexible and actually pleasant to work with.
The first six months went into the foundation: Loki Components plus the checkout itself. The next six into integrations and stability. And the past year into features, refinements and fixing the things real shops ran into in production.
The fastest? The most flexible?
To me, Loki Checkout is now among the fastest checkouts available for Magento, with Luma, Hyvä and Nebula all covered. And ofcourse I'm completely biased here, so don't take my word for it: Open our demo, run Lighthouse yourself, change the country, switch steps, refresh the page and check whether your data survived.
What customers keep telling us though is not about speed at all. It is about how easy the thing is to customize, whether you do that by hand or with AI doing part of the typing.
Open source
So here it is: Loki Checkout Core is free and open source, effective immediately. No license cost for developers, agencies or merchants:

Commercial plans for additional features
For existing customers, nothing changes. And I mean nothing: Your subscription, your features, your current setup all stay exactly as they are.
The core is free now, but a good part of the interesting stuff is still commercial - cart editing, EU VAT validation, payment integrations like Mollie and Buckaroo, plus a pile of smaller developer-oriented modules. Our Standard and Professional plans remain the way to get those:
... but why?
So why give away the core? Because we think high-performance checkout technology should be reachable for everyone, and because Magento its ecosystem gets stronger when people can actually read, use and improve the code instead of only hearing about it in a webinar (yes, my accountant frowned a bit).
And more is coming
We are also exploring a marketplace for integrations and add-ons, so you could buy just the one module you need instead of a bundle. Until that exists, the paid plans stay the most practical route.
And we are not done for this year. There is more coming.
Thanks for the trust and the feedback over the past two years - you shaped this thing more than you probably realize. Questions about what this means for your shop? Let me know.
