RAND HRS Quarter 4 2026 Data Releases

Note: Questions regarding RAND HRS files should be directed to [email protected].

The RAND HRS 2022 Fat File contains most of the raw variables collected at the respondent or household level from the HRS 2022 Core data (Final V2.0). The RAND HRS Fat Files can be easily merged with one another and with the RAND HRS Longitudinal file. There is one file for each survey year. The RAND HRS 2022 Fat File was updated based on HRS 2022 Core (Final V2.0) data and the HRS Tracker 2022 (Final V1.0) file.

The RAND HRS Longitudinal File 2022 is a user-friendly file containing data from all waves of the HRS Core and Exit interviews in addition to derived variables covering a large range of topics such as demographics, health, health insurance, Social Security, pensions, family structure, retirement plans, expectations, and employment history, as well as imputations for income, assets, and medical expenditures. The RAND HRS Longitudinal File 2022 incorporates data from the HRS 2022 Core (Final V2.0) and Exit (Early V1.0) interview data in addition to the Tracker (2022 Final V1.0), and the most recent version of the Region and Mobility file.

The RAND HRS Detailed Imputations File 2022 contains the component and ownership variables for all waves that are used in the income, wealth, and medical expenditures summary measures found in the RAND HRS Longitudinal File. It is distributed as a companion file to the RAND HRS Longitudinal File and is especially useful for those who require more detail than that found in the RAND HRS Longitudinal File. In this update, income, wealth, and medical expenditures data now include the HRS 2022 Core (Final V2.0) Interview data.

RAND HRS Archived Data Products After requests from several users, we are re-releasing archived versions of the RAND HRS Longitudinal File and the RAND HRS Detailed Imputation File to promote data transparency and reproducibility of research studies. New to the archive are the RAND HRS 1992-2022 (V1) versions of these files. As always, we strongly recommend that users download the latest version of all RAND HRS data products for new and continuing research projects.
