TrueNAS 27 RC.1 is Here. Plus Proxmox, Veeam & More
Hello there,
Whether you’re running TrueNAS today or sizing up what’s next, this issue has news you can put to use right away.
TrueNAS 27 is now in release candidate and ready for your test systems, the Proxmox plugin is live, and TrueNAS is the first storage platform on Veeam’s
All-In-One virtual appliance list.
We also took home two Best of Show awards at IBC 2026, and if you know a team stuck on overpriced legacy storage, there’s a referral program below worth a look.
Next up, we’ll be at Supercomputing in Chicago this November. Details below.
TrueNAS 27 RC.1: Ready for Your Test Systems
You asked, we listened. We’ve renamed TrueNAS 26 to TrueNAS 27 to reflect the year most users will deploy it.
What's in it:
- TrueSearch and WebShare: server-side search across file names, metadata, and content, with macOS Spotlight integration and browser access to your files from any device. Requires TrueNAS Connect.
- Fusion Pools 2.0: flash and disk work together more flexibly, with RAIDZ special vdevs, and Live Dataset Tiering on TrueNAS Enterprise to move datasets between flash and disk without disrupting clients.
- Stateful SMB failover: SMB sessions survive a controller failover on TrueNAS Enterprise HA systems.
- TrueNAS Object Interface (Early Access): native S3 access to ZFS datasets on every TrueNAS edition.
RC.1 is for early adopters and test systems. Production systems should wait for TrueNAS 27.0, scheduled for early December.
TrueNAS + Veeam: Enterprise Backup Without a Separate Server
TrueNAS is the first storage platform certified under Veeam Ready Appliance's newest category, All-In-One (virtualized).
The Veeam Software Appliance runs as a VM directly on the array, with its boot disk and backup repository on ZFS zvols, so there's no separate backup server to size, patch, and harden. Procurement teams can verify the listing themselves on Veeam's site.
The TrueNAS Proxmox Plugin Is Live
Moving to Proxmox is a big enough change without rethinking your storage too. Many teams leaving VMware land on Proxmox and keep their VM disks on TrueNAS over NFS or manually created iSCSI LUNs, but NFS snapshots can block the VM, and manual LUNs turn every storage change into a request and a wait.
The new TrueNAS Proxmox Plugin fixes that: Proxmox can create, snapshot, resize, migrate, and delete TrueNAS-backed VM disks directly, including live snapshots that capture RAM state, cutting down time in the storage UI and provisioning mistakes.
Available now as an Early Adopter release for Community Edition; Enterprise support is in active validation.
Two Best of Show Awards at IBC 2026
The TrueNAS V-Series won Best of Show awards from both TVTech and ITPro at IBC 2026. Its tri-mode design supports NVMe, SSD, and HDD in one system. That lets media teams match performance and cost to each stage of production, from high-speed ingest and real-time editing to nearline storage and deep archive, without siloed infrastructure or overprovisioning.
Swing by at SC26
We'll be atSC26 in Chicago this November, with the TrueNAS V-Series live on the floor all week.
Come visit us at Booth #5005 for some freshly baked cookies, or join our happy hour, in partnership with Western Digital, on Wednesday the 18th.
