š Googleās Gemini 4 Carbon tops the charts (for now)
Good morning, AI enthusiasts, and welcome to our 4,742 new readers. Google spent much of 2026 playing catch-up in the AI race. A month and two frontier models later, itās sitting at the top of the charts again, sort of.
Gemini 4 Carbon has the numbers to back up all the comeback talk, but like Argon at launch, the public canāt use it yet ā and with OpenAI and Anthropic shipping at a similar pace, the crown might not last long.
In todayās AI rundown:
Googleās Carbon takes the benchmark crown (for now)

The Rundown: Google just unveiled Gemini 4 Carbon, a new frontier model built for cybersecurity and long-running coding work that tops 15 of 17 benchmarks on Googleās charts, but isnāt yet public ā with only select cyber defenders gaining access to start.
The details:
Carbonās 59 on Artificial Analysisā āIntelligence Indexā takes the top spot from Claude Opus 5.5 and improves 9 points over Googleās Argon from four weeks ago.
Carbonās widest wins over OpenAIās Astra and Opus came on long-input reasoning (+24 points), hacking (+12), workflow automation (+11), and math (+8).
Carbonās $2/$10 intro API price (per million tokens in/out) is half of Opus 5.5ās and 1/5 of Astraās, though it doubles to Opusās rate after the initial discount.
Google hasnāt given a date for wider access to Carbon, with Argon previously rolling out around two weeks after its debut to cyber defenders.
Why it matters: Two big models in weeks is a big statement from a Google that spent much of 2026 playing catch-up, and Carbonās numbers back it up. But nobody outside select cyber defenders can vibe-check those numbers yet, and at the pace OpenAI and Anthropic are shipping, the rankings could change well before Carbon goes public.

NATEāS NOTEBOOK
The Rundown: Each week, Rundown AI educator Nate Grahek breaks down what heās seeing while teaching real teams to use AI.
Nate: Most mornings, I brain dump my project list into my phone while I wait for coffee. Dot splits that one voice dump into separate chats running at once, each in its own context window. By the time Iām back at my desk, theyāre gathering context, doing research, and drafting outlines.
Thatās the difference between the agents landing right now. Grok Bot and OpenClaw are monothreads: one worker running unattended. Even with careful rules and profiles, Iāve never been super impressed with that work. Dot is a delegator, handing discrete jobs to threads I can still coach.
Unattended is the hard part. Think about hiring a new assistant: we all underestimate how hard it is for anyone, human or agent, to anticipate what matters to you. Agents will get there, but it takes time and a lot more context. Until then, I stay in the loop for chunking, quality, and coaching.
Last week, I laid out my ladder: read, then write, then send. If youāre not ready for write access, thatās okay. Dot sorts the noise in my inbox and flags what needs me, with no access to write anything. Just letting it read and triage is a smart, useful, powerful first step, and itās why Iām even more excited to finally get Anthropicās Duet.
No Dot yet? The brain dump works in a new ChatGPT voice chat, too.
Weāre currently in the messy middle. Triage and delegation are worth jumping into now; figure out the rest along the way.
AI TRAINING
The Rundown: In this guide, youāll try Canvaās new image model on a workshop poster. Youāll check the headline, add event details you can edit, and make a square version without rebuilding the whole artwork.
Step-by-step:
Open Dream Lab from Canvaās homepage and select Craft. Choose a portrait layout and check your AI allowance before generating
Paste the guideās brief. Ask for a clear headline and blank space for the event details. Then, check the headline very closely
If the issue remains after one revision, generate the artwork without text and add the heading yourself
Open the image in Canva and add the date, time, and venue as text boxes. Try Magic Layers only if you need to edit words or objects inside the generated image
Make a square version and change the event date in both designs. Check the downloaded files for spelling, cropping, and the correct details
Pro tip: Keep details that may change in ordinary text boxes. A new date should not require another image generation. You can find our full guide, test resources, and prompts here.

AI & THE WORKFORCE
The Rundown: Anthropic engineering manager Felix Rieseberg wrote that heās dropped the coding interview from his teamās hiring, saying Claude now outperforms people on the short coding tests it relied on ā while also offering an optimistic counter-take that AI is letting junior engineers overtake veterans.
The details:
Rieseberg, who has led engineering on Claude Code Desktop, says he has seen newer engineers āfly pastā likely better coders, and that āhunger beats tenure.ā
His advice to juniors is to tie one bold idea to higher-upsā goals and build it as a weekend prototype, since with AI āexecution isnāt expensive anymore.ā
He used Claude Codeās desktop app as an example, with two newer employees prototyping it in one weekend before it went public just over a week later.
Why it matters: A lot of this yearās talk about junior engineers has been gloomy, with Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark saying earlier that AI makes their value āa bit more dubious.ā Riesebergās taking the opposite stance from inside the same company, with a vote of confidence in agency and AI-enabled ambition over years of experience.

COMMUNITY AI WORKFLOW OF THE DAY
āø Mario built an AI prospector that pitches websites to local shops
Todayās workflow comes from reader Mario Mitchell:
āI built a set of agents that run every day to find local businesses with no website, build a site for a selected business, and email the mockup to that lead. Itās for anyone who sells web services to local businesses and wants to automate the prospecting.
Each day, my Gemini and ChatGPT agents check the major cities in the state I select, for the industry I select, and find the best businesses that donāt have a website. They add those businesses to a spreadsheet. A second agent reads the spreadsheet, selects the best prospect based on its need for web services and likelihood of buying, and starts building its website.
That agent checks the businessās social media for images and its Google Business Profile for information. It also looks for a logo. If there isnāt one, it creates a logo for them. A third agent takes the mockup and sends an email with it to the lead. A fourth agent is set up to reply once the lead responds, book them on a call, and put the call on the calendar.ā
