How to Use Akka.NET with Microsoft.Extensions

Hello Mailwal - we thought you might like this set of "best of" posts from our blog!

Akka.Hosting and Akka.DependencyInjection

Since the introduction of .NET Core, Microsoft.Extensions has largely taken over as the dominant model for configuration, dependency injection, logging, and even hosting models for the majority of .NET applications.

In these three blog posts we explore how to integrate Akka.NET with these key parts of the Akka.NET ecosystem:

  • "Introduction to Akka.Hosting" - if you only have time for one post, make sure it's this one. Akka.Hosting allows Akka.NET users to configure their Akka.NET applications without HOCON, relying instead on an extensible, statically typed set of methods that tie in directly with Microsoft.Extensions.Configuration, Logging, DependencyInjection, and Hosting.
  • "No Hocon, No Lighthouse, No Problem" - a follow-up to our "Introduction to Akka.Hosting" post that demonstrates how to use the ActorRegistry to easily inject Akka.NET actors into non-actor things, such as ASP.NET Controllers or SignalR Hubs.
  • "Everything You Wanted to Know about Dependency Injection and Akka.NET" - how to use Microsoft.Extensions.DependencyInjection with Akka.NET actors and some important things to keep in mind with respect to actor lifecycles vs. dependency lifecycles.

We hope you enjoy these blog posts!
