By people, for the people

The Editorial Board is for you. Please show your support today.

Oct 31

Yesterday, I sent you the latest edition of the Editorial Board. It was about the “very perilous” period after the midterms during which a highly unstable president is probably going to do his worst. And if that’s not scary enough, there’s Donald Trump’s escalation of war to consider, and the general collapse of the world order. “The bones of the republic are probably going to hold up, however precariously,” I said. “It’s the other stuff – war and chaos and a bubble that’s about the burst – that is driving me to distraction.”

I’m writing today to ask for your help in continuing this work. The Editorial Board is made by people, for the people. I don’t use artificial intelligence. There are no sponsors. There are no ads. It’s just me and you and the democracy we love. (And the friends who contribute occasional pieces.) I hope you will support the mission in whatever way you can.

For just $9 month, you get so much: analysis and commentary; about 15 editions a month; a feeling of understanding and hope; and lots of kitchen-table ammo! You get the satisfaction of supporting an independent voice speaking the truth as plainly as he can.

That’s a lot for just 30¢ a day!

If you don’t want to subscribe, or are already subscribing (THANK YOU!), please consider a tip. Every dollar goes to groceries or the heat or things my daughter needs for school. (Check your status below to see if you’re subscribing or on the free list.)

[Click here to leave a tip in the tip jar! Say $10? THANKS!]

I won’t stop working hard for you and for democracy. I can’t help myself. But I hope you will you find a way to support the Editorial Board!

The Wall Street Journal and CBS News confirmed that Elon Musk was involved in the decision to stall out Starshield, the military version of Starlink, when Ukraine needed it most. As Russia launched its biggest attack since the invasion, Musk “capped the speeds at which Ukrainian hardware could stay connected to the satellite-based n…

I’m late to this, but there’s still time for a word on James Talarico’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s show. It’s important, because I don’t think most people on the left appreciate how threatening he is. He has a shot at becoming the first Democrat elected to the US Senate from Texas in decades. He presents a chance to reclaim policies favorable to Donal…

In American politics, the simplest explanation is probably the best. Why are some Republicans suddenly and conspicuously breaking from Donald Trump? Not just any Republicans, but ruby-red Republicans, in ruby-red states, in the span of days…

Yesterday, during an interview with Glenn Beck, the president made Dolly Parton’s death about him. (”She really liked me, I will tell you.”) That was no surprise. What was surprising, however, was what Donald Trump said right before that. “She wasn’t a very political person…
