The Consensus Weekly, October 31, 2026
Hey folks,
The Consensus moves from New York City down to its new home in Durham, North Carolina this weekend.
We're also rolling out a new version of code search that indexes every commit in the last 10 years from projects we track and includes jump-to-definition, jump-to-use, and call tree diagrams on all symbols in major languages on source view pages.
Here's an example starting point, the main function in Apache HTTP Server.
Still working out the kinks. We'll publish a blog post on it when it's a little more polished. But you can also try it out yourself and let us know what you think!
p.s. We're always looking for ad-hoc, paid contributors.
Cheers, Phil

Open and closed loop benchmarking
In a closed loop benchmark, mean latency is just the number of clients divided by throughput. Latency is better measured with an open loop benchmark, but there you have to consider request distribution policy, desired throughput, and retries. We take a look at both types of benchmarks running against nginx and PostgreSQL.
Paywall has expired. Give it a read!
