Why am I so anxious for one or both, OpenAI and Anthropic, to finally IPO and make their S-1 public? Because in each case their auditors, Deloitte and EY respectively, also audit significant business partners, investors, customers, and vendors. Something I wrote on August 15 points to this situation and what we will hopefully learn from any asymmetrical accounting and disclosure when the firms have an auditor in common: “Sharing client info about common accounting and disclosures That Microsoft (investor) and Open AI (investee) share an auditor — Deloitte — and that EY is auditor of choice for the rest of the hyperscalers – Amazon, Oracle, Meta, Alphabet — and is now expected to be auditor of Anthropic — in which many of them have significant investments — raises the question: Is confidential information shared within an audit firm about its clients and across the Big 4 about clients with counterparty relationships or common accounting and disclosure issues?
