đ„łYou're a Lil Swipe Now!
Hi Franger (Friend/Stranger on the Internet)!
Youâre officially signed up for The Swipe Up! Iâm so glad youâre here. The Swipe Up provides an excellent, award-winning email called Lil Treasures every Friday. Make sure you click over to the comments because that is where the magic happens. If youâre new, introduce yourself and say hello!
If youâre wondering what the general vibe of the newsletter is, be expecting a cornucopia full of fun articles and podcasts, wholesome videos, funny Tweets and the occasional horse dancing to Beyonce. I also do a good bit of writing here and love to mix in some Q&As from time to time as well.
Some sample newsletters as you dip your toes in the water:

â€ïž Your unsoothed heart is your most powerful weapon (And Gwen Stefaniâs Abs)
We love Q&As here, so letâs do some now!
Q: What is the best season of The West Wing?
A: The easiest question. Itâs season 2. Shibboleth? Galileo? Noel? Somebodyâs Going to Emergency, Somebodyâs Going to Jail? TWO CATHEDRALS? There is no other answer. Season 2, all day.
Q: How do I interact in the comment section? Can I contact someone directly from there?
A: Scroll to the bottom of the Lil Treasures email or post, and look for the tiny comment box. Click on that and you should see all the other comments! You can create your own or chime in to someone elseâs. As far as directly messaging someone in the comments, that isnât really an option here on Substack, but we did put together this Lil Swipes Community Info spreadsheet if you want to add your deets and find out how you can connect from there!
Q: Is it normal for a person to have a new favorite song after every exposure to Hamilton?
A: Absolutely. Also, if youâre new here and have any interest in Hamilton, please indulge yourself in the Hamilton spreadsheet, where links and resources abound.
Q: What church holiday doesnât exist but you think it should?
A: I wish we had a feast day for Jael, who killed Sisera and then told him, as he was dying, to have a great time in hell and to make sure he tells his dad he was murdered by a lady [đ„HUGE BURNđ„] (in Jewish tradition, Siseraâs voice was so powerful that walls would shake and birds would fly out of trees when he spoke, and Deborah was the only person on earth who didnât flinch at it). Jael and Deborah are very cool. What is this newsletter, where we talk about mascara and women driving tent pegs into skulls? The Lazy Genius had a great episode about making your own holiday: do you think we can get her to fast-track Jael Day?
Q: What is an affiliate link?
A: Some of the links here in the newsletter are affiliate links, which means that you support The Swipe Up at no extra charge to your own self when you buy from them, but sometimes I do collect a few pennies. It makes Ben Moon really happy when you do this, so thanks in advance. I only post links to things that I actually use, and try to make sure most of them are compiled on my Amazon store as well!
Lil Swipes 101: The Vocabulary
-Stupid Walkâą: Sometimes during lunch, Iâll take a walk and while it is so dumb that a walk in the fresh air will do what a brownie cannot, I admit that it does help. I shared this concept with the Lil Swipes a while back, and now we are all taking stupid little walks for our mental health. Come join us! đ¶
-We Got You Club: While I believe in the power of a bubble bath, I also think we put too much pressure on self-care to do a job that community care was always meant to perform. The We Got You Club spawned out of this idea, a way for people to post a need they have, and for us to step in and help meet this need. This is an opportunity to show others that weâre in their corner, but it also whispers to you and me that we can give a little time or money or kindness and shoot hope into veins. To post a need or meet a need, go check out the We Got You Club đ€.
-Hack Your Cry: It goes like this - youâre sad, but 3s donât know they are sad, or they canât figure out why, but we need to get it out of our system. We also do not like to be sad (because at some point someone told us sad equals loser and weâve never really let that go, plus we just donât like the feels which accompany sad) so we watch something so happy and pure that it forces us to cry, essentially crying out the sadness, but through a conduit of delight and joy. Best uses of the conduit are: Episodes of Queer Eye, this video of Mister Rogers talking to adults after 9/11, videos of soldiers coming to their dogs (family members are too sad!), this video of Fred Rogers getting inducted into the TV Hall of Fame and being surprised by Jeff Erlinger, this video of Fred Rogers getting his lifetime achievement award when he destroys a room full of celebs and makes them weep, any episode of Somebody Feed Phil, and pretty much any and all Fred Rogers-related content on this internet.
