Anthropic's $16.3B Revenue and 900% NRR
Hey SaaStr AI Community: Are the markets back with Anthropic's $16.3B half-year revenue and 900% NRR? How do AI agents transform the simplest contact forms into revenue machines? And what about the 8,625 startups raising their first rounds this year? Let's dive in. - Jason & Amelia

Anthropic filed its S-1 this morning. It plans to list its Class A common stock on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the symbol "ANT," and the share count and price range haven't been set yet.
Revenue was $41 million in 2023, $386 million in 2024 and $4,585 million in 2025. In the first half of 2026 alone it was $16,286 million, roughly fourteen times the $1,163 million from the first half of 2025.
The valuation and the $80 billion net loss will get the headlines. For founders, the metric definitions, the expense table and a few lines in the business section have more to teach. Here are five.
Through Q3 2026, an estimated 8,625 US startups closed their first-ever venture financing per PitchBook.
That already beats 2021's full-year record of 8,507, with a quarter still to go. 2025 also came close to the 2021 record, so this is two near-record years in a row.
At the current pace, 2026 lands around 11,500 first-time financings by our estimate. The dollars are a record too: $34.3 billion through Q3, pacing ahead of 2021's $40.7 billion full-year high.
A record number of new companies and a shrinking number of active VCs should make this a great time to be a seed investor. It isn't. Many smaller VC firms told PitchBook's Jacob Robbins they're struggling to get in the door at all.

We know bot-free meeting notetaking is exactly what you want – no more third participant awkwardly joining every call. Fathom takes it further: bot-free capture that keeps full video alongside your transcript and summary, now live on Mac, plus the speaker attribution and mute acknowledgement most bot-free tools skip.
If you're trying to figure out where to deploy your first real AI agent in go-to-market, start with the most boring page on your website. The Contact Me form.
No one should wait days to hear back from a 21-year-old human whose job is to qualify them. And yet that's still how most B2B companies run inbound in 2026, including a surprising number of AI startups we meet. They've raised on an agent story and their own website runs a form, a queue, and an SDR who gets to it tomorrow.
We ran it that way for years at SaaStr too. Here's what changed when we put an agent on it, and what we learned running it across 2M+ sessions.

The deeper cut on a week where capital concentrated harder than I've ever seen, and what founders should actually do about it
Harry, Rory and I covered a lot this week: a $20M ARR profitable company that can't get a meeting, Anthropic's $16.8B quarter, CoreWeave's 25% drop, Modal at $15.75B, and Berkshire doubling down on Bending Spoons. Here's my cut for founders.
Earlier in the day at the latest SaaStr AI Day, Jason and Amelia talked about a core weakness in most AI prospecting tools: they run almost entirely on third-party data. Every team buys from the same data vendors, so every agent ends up writing the same emails to the same people.
In the next session, Steve (CMO) and Richa (head of product) from Aurasell showed a prospecting agent built to also use first-party data: your own CRM history, past meeting transcripts, and internal conversations. Amelia had a preview the week before and plans to benchmark it against the agents SaaStr already runs.
