NIA Research Workforce Supplements

NIA supports a variety of research workforce supplements for K grant or first-time research project grant awardees. These supplements are for qualifying critical life events including: high-risk pregnancy, childbirth, adoption, serious personal health issues, and primary caregiving responsibilities of an ailing immediate family member during the project period of the grant. There are also re-entry supplements that support a new lab member who is re-entering the research workforce after a hiatus and re-integration supplements that support a new lab member who is switching labs due to an unsafe or discriminatory environment.

Prospective applicants should contact the NIA Training Team at [email protected] to confirm eligibility and receive further application instructions.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Protecting Financial Well-Being While Preserving Independence

December 2, 2026 | Virtual

Offered by the ASU Roybal Center and the Center for Innovation in Healthy and Resilient Aging, this presentation will explore how person-centered financial-capacity tools can help identify risk while respecting older adults’ values, preferences, autonomy, and right to participate in decisions. Drawing on research involving financial decision-making, early memory loss, scams, and exploitation prevention, Dr. Lichtenberg will offer practical insights for researchers, professionals, older adults, families, and community members seeking to promote both financial safety and independence.

NIA Demography & Economics of Aging and ADRD Annual Workshop

May 20-21 2027 | Rockville, MD & Virtual

Join the NIA Demography and Economics Coordinating Center (DECC) for our first annual workshop! This year’s theme is The Long Arm of Early Life and Biological aging: the workshop will explore how early-life experiences and conditions shape health, cognition, longevity, and well-being later in life. Researchers are invited to share findings, explore innovative data and methods, and connect with colleagues across disciplines through presentations, discussions, and networking opportunities.

FUNDING & CAREER DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Call for proposals: NIA Demography & Economics of Aging Emerging Scholars Program

Visit the site to see the LOI deadlines for each DECC!

The National Institute of Aging Demography & Economics of Aging Emerging Scholar Pilot Project and Mentoring Program supports new and innovative lines of research in each D&E Centers’ population-based social science aging research theme(s). This two-year Program provides training and mentorship to awardees of Emerging Scholars Pilot Projects leading to an R-series or K-series application submission to NIA. Each of the 18 D&E Centers funds and runs their own Emerging Scholars Program, with coordination and support provided by the DECC.

Call for Proposals: Clinical Trials on Behavioral Interventions in Aging

Select Roybal Centers have extended their LOI deadlines!

Each Roybal Center has a unique theme with center-specific application criteria; applicants should refer to the center-specific guidance when applying.

Call for Papers: Life Course Economic Context in AD/ADRD Risk and Care

Deadline: March 31, 2027

This special issue will feature papers assessing disparities in AD/ADRD risk and care within this economic context, encompassing both financial factors (e.g., income and wealth) and non-financial factors (e.g., family availability for caregiving).
