Your VB6 project, now in 64-bit
Your VB6 project, now in 64-bit
Hey everyone,
New demo: VB6 + ActiveX in 64-bit
We’ve published a new demo video showing a classic VB6 project running as a native 64-bit application with RAD Basic, without changing a single line of code.
The project uses two common dependencies: the Acrobat Reader ActiveX control to display PDFs, and CommonDialog. In the video, we first build it with the default 32-bit profile, where everything works just as it would in the original VB6 IDE. Then we switch to the 64-bit build profile, and the same project compiles and runs as a 64-bit process, with the PDF viewer and dialogs working correctly.
How does RAD Basic make this possible?
- VB6 runtime components are mapped to reimplemented native components that support both 32-bit and 64-bit.
- Third-party controls that ship both 32-bit and 64-bit OCX files are recognized, and RAD Basic automatically uses the 64-bit version when it’s ABI-compatible.
The demo was recorded using the latest published nightly build, so you can try it yourself right away.
