Welcome—let’s make tech good

Mozilla Foundation

Hello,

Thank you for joining forces with Mozilla Foundation. We believe the best way to shape the future is to open it up—so more people can take part, create boldly, and learn together.

When Mozilla first introduced Firefox 25 years ago, we couldn’t predict where technology and the Internet would end up. But we are still guided by the same simple idea: Give people more control over their online experiences.

Together, let’s imagine—and then build—the good tech future we want to see. Wondering how you can keep up the momentum? Here’s an overview of what the Mozilla community does, and how you can get involved.

1. Storytelling

To build a better Internet, first we have to imagine it—and each one of us can tell its story.

The Internet’s next chapter won’t be handed down by platforms. It will be built—again—by people. Our storytelling platform, Nothing Personal gathers those builders, thinkers and creatives, maps where the most interesting experiments are happening, and offers practical guidance (and satire) to help people enjoy technology again.

Each month, we unpack how tech shapes culture and question what’s become “normal.” Dive in to read Nothing Personal →

We also review products to help you choose new tech that actually works for you. We dig into what’s really happening behind the scenes—like our WhatsApp privacy review that pushed Meta to change how it encrypts backups. Read the WhatsApp privacy review →

2. Campaigns

We mobilize to demand a better Internet—via advocacy and expertise.

We mobilize people everywhere to make good technology the default. Our campaigns lift issues into the spotlight and push companies to do better. Last year, the Mozilla Foundation community helped highlight how Meta’s new AI-powered Discover Feed was quietly exposing people’s private conversations. After we raised the alarm, Meta reached out directly. We negotiated mandatory warning screens inside the app—a simple shift that now protects millions from unintentionally sharing their private conversations.

In 2026, we’re rallying around three big priorities: an open web, privacy and encryption, and stronger data agency. We’re committed to the long-haul work that raises the bar for the entire tech industry. And with you alongside us, we can move further and faster toward technology that truly works for people.

3. Good Tech

We build side by side with developers and innovators—via accelerators, data platforms, and product spinouts.

Mozilla is best known for Firefox—the web browser built to put people and privacy first. But that’s just the start. Did you know Mozilla Foundation funds and co-creates technologies to give you more control over your online experiences, keeping you safer and smarter online.

We believe that tech should serve everyone—no matter where you are or what language you speak. Most voice enabled technology–used in products like Amazon’s Alexa or Apple’s Siri—do not serve non-English speakers, people of color, disabled people, and gender-marginalized people well or at all. So we created Common Voice. It’s the world's largest crowd-sourced, open-source dataset, and gives tech builders what they need to make more inclusive products.

Hundreds of thousands of volunteer contributors have already donated their voices to Common Voice. Being part of the public dataset that’s changing the game is as simple as reading a few lines out loud or answering basic questions in your own words!

Mozilla Data Collective is rebuilding the AI data ecosystem with communities at the core—enabling them to share their datasets in new ways and on their terms. It brings together people, communities, and partners to share datasets that are open, trustworthy, and designed for the public good. By setting higher standards for how data is collected and used, the Data Collective helps power technology that’s more accurate, inclusive, and accountable.

Creative Futures is Mozilla Foundation’s 10-week cultural research and development residency where creative technologists and communities come together to imagine and build alternative tech infrastructures. Residents prototype experimental counterstructures—cultural artifacts, installations, and tools that question and reframe dominant tech systems.

4. Mozilla Festival

We host the premier gathering of people working to create a more human-centered digital world.

Forget what you’ve been told. The future of tech isn’t set—it’s ours to shape. Whether you create art, code, program, or scroll with concern about the future of the Internet, at Mozilla Festival you will be surrounded by a global community of people working to make the Internet a better, safer, and fairer place for everyone.

Over the past 15 years, MozFest has brought together more than 60,000 participants from 145 countries. At Mozilla Festival 2025, we gathered in Barcelona around the theme of unlearning and in 2026 we’ll be back in Barcelona again.

5. Mozilla Fellows

We’re supporting leaders who believe that a better tech future isn’t just possible–it’s ours to create.

Meet the front-liners of our movement: Mozilla Fellows. These activists, researchers, engineers, and policy experts are pushing for technology and an open Internet that puts people first. Together, we empower the thought leaders of today and tomorrow—four Mozilla Fellowships alumni were recognized on TIME’s 100 Most Influential People in AI list in 2024.

Mozilla Fellows have been at the forefront of the most critical conversations about technology and society, from debunking AI myths to exposing disinformation campaigns. They’re the kind of leaders who turn defiant optimism about technology’s future into action.

In short: We’re creating a future where good technology is the norm. We are thrilled that you are part of it—the Internet we deserve starts with you. We’ll follow up soon, with additional ways to take action together.

Thank you for all you do for the Internet.
