Meeting C++26 - a t-shirt and more!

Meeting C++

Hello Mailwal

Its time to put C++26 on a t-shirt, literally! Thanks to our sponsor Hudson River Trading, this years conference will feature again a colorful t-shirt exclusive for onsite attendees! So get your tickets soon!

Again, this years design is based on the QPainterPath code from last year. With QPainterPath one can create actual path based text in an image, while when you use QPainter::drawText you'll get a font embedded when exporting to svg. This did cause some trouble in 2024. The current issue was more about expanding the small application dedicated to hosting the code for the t-shirts. I'd like to keep the versions of prior years around, so for next year there are some low hanging fruits to refactor. And I do have an idea for next years t-shirt already, as next year its time to celebrate 15 years of Meeting C++! While Meeting C++ 2026 has a heavy focus on C++26, and in these standard years I do want to focus on the Meeting C++xx motive like the Meeting C++17 shirt.

Talks on C++26 this year

When searching for C++26, you'll find 11 talks in the talk listing. With 5 tracks that is 20% of the talks* at Meeting C++ 2026, and I'm sure more talks will cover details of C++26. Lets start with the most popular feature: reflection. You might want to start with a A gentle introduction to Reflection, while C++26 static reflection: All you need is annotations goes a bit deeper into the great features now available. Three talks are about applying reflections - Simplifying Language Implementation with C++26 Reflection speaks about building a programming language with C++26, while Simplifying Qt MOC with C++26 reflections explores how C++26 could make Qt more interesting again. While the 3rd talk Zero Cost Scripting Languages For Game Engines With C++26 Reflection looks into building scripting languages with C++26. This talk is part of the online track, and has its public recording on November 10th, check out the Meeting C++ online group for these events starting on October 27th! While When Your Compiler Runs Your Code reminds us that reflection is just a bit more of constexpr magic added to the standard. I like that not all talks purely focus on C++26, such as Static and Dynamic External Polymorphism in C++23 and Beyond will already be interesting, adding C++26 and reflection as a bonus is a nice touch.

There are other features also in C++26, not just reflection. A first overview will give you What to look forward to in C++26, and How to implement C++26 RCU covers a specific C++26 feature. And std::execution with sender/receiver will be covered in Implementing Async RAII - while Coroutines (wonder)land focuses on coroutines, it uses a socket implementation as its example and promises a look at C++26 sender/receiver library, this talk will also feature in the online track.

Then there is a special talk with Not-so-trivial relocation in C++ about a feature that was once in C++26. This might be the hot topic of the conference with the current ongoing debate about keeping or removing contracts from C++26...

I look forward to see some of you in Berlin or online, as this years conference is hybrid once again.

* I am happy with that result, as there is lots of other topics that should be covered. Its really important to be relevant to what attendees do. C++26 is right now great to play with on Compiler Explorer. GCC 16 is already released with good support, but other compilers likely will catch up in 2027.
