What Does it Mean to Age Well Around the World?
Mather is proud to be part of the Global Wellness Institute’s Aging Well Initiative, a global effort focused on advancing wellness for people 50 and better. Through this connection, we’re pleased to share the initiative’s first in a series of reports, Aging Well Across Countries: Global Perspectives on What Matters Most.
This report explores how olders adults in five countries—Costa Rica, Denmark, Japan, Nigeria, and the United States—define Aging Well, highlighting the priorities they share and the ways their perspectives differ across cultural, social, and economic contexts. Based on a survey of 4,397 adults, the findings offer a broader understanding of what matters most in later life and the conditions that help older adults live well.
The report examines:
what older adults across five countries have in common—and where their priorities differ
how culture and context shape the roles of mental health, spirituality, and social connection
what these findings mean for supporting Aging Well in different communities
