[Koha] MAM for Koha 1.1: attach scans, documents, audio and video to records and items (beta, testers welcome)
MAM (Media Asset Management) for Koha
Hello everyone,
I'd like to share an open-source project I've been building for our library: MAM (Media Asset Management) for Koha. It gives Koha a proper home for digital media: scanned books and theses, PDFs, images, audio and video, attached to bibliographic records or to individual items. How it works
A cataloguer clicks Attach Media on a record in the staff interface (or on an item, from its Actions menu).
The MAM application opens in a new tab, already signed in with their Koha account. There is no second password, and Koha permissions decide who may attach media.
They upload the file. It is checked, virus-scanned, and prepared for
viewing.
After approval, the link is written back to Koha through the REST API: MARC 856 for a record, or the item's URL (952$u) for a copy.
Patrons open it from the OPAC in a secure viewer, with document search, video streaming, zoomable images, and a watermark. View counts reflect real reading or watching, not page loads.
A 20-second walkthrough: <https://github.com/tahir242/koha-media-manager/blob/main/docs/images/attach-media-flow.gif> https://github.com/tahir242/koha-media-manager/blob/main/docs/images/attach-media-flow.gif
Try it in one command. If you have Docker, this starts Koha 26.05, the MAM, and the plugin, already configured, on your own computer:
git clone https://github.com/tahir242/koha-mam.git
cd koha-mam/demo
docker compose up -d --build
Then open <http://staff.localhost:8081/>http://staff.localhost:8081 and sign in as librarian / Library2026. The first start takes 10–20 minutes. The two parts
- Koha plugin (Koha 22.11 to 26.05):

- MAM application (Laravel/PHP; MySQL, MariaDB or PostgreSQL; local
disk, NAS or S3 storage): <https://github.com/tahir242/koha-mam>

The plugin stores no media and never edits records itself; publishing goes through Koha's official REST API.
It's in beta. I'm looking for 3–5 libraries willing to try it on a test server and tell me what works and what doesn't, especially libraries with digitisation projects, theses, or audio-visual collections. Feedback is welcome on this list, by email, or in the project's GitHub Discussions: <https://github.com/tahir242/koha-mam/discussions> https://github.com/tahir242/koha-mam/discussions
Both parts are open source: the plugin under the GPL-3.0-or-later, like Koha, and the MAM application under the MIT license.
Thank you,
