AI & Code Quality, New in Qt 6.12, Embedded C++ in CLion, QML Theming, Training, Events
October 2026
KDAB welcomes you to the October Newsletter for professional developers.
The big news this month is the launch of our new channel, The Curious Developer, where Jesper Pedersen talks to a wide range of experts on topics from C++, Qt and Rust to embedded systems and AI. We offer an interview with Klaus Iglberger on AI, Code Quality, and the Future of Developers to kick it off.
We follow this with three other new video releases. First, Jesper talks with Maycon Stamborowski and Ulf Hermann from Qt Group to discuss What’s new in Qt 6.12? Then we have our Senior UX/UI Designer, Nuno Pinheiro offering creative suggestions for theming QML in answer to How Much Freedom Should a UI Framework Give You? After that, Joshua Goins from KDAB US, takes us through a tutorial on configuring CLion on Linux with: Embedded C++ Development in CLion.
We then give you the latest KDAB Training news, a quick résumé of events in the run-up to Christmas, and an Audio version of the September Newsletter.
The Curious Developer
The Curious Developer now has its own YouTube channel.
Over the past episodes, Jesper Pedersen has talked with developers, authors and engineers about modern C++, functional programming, tooling, debugging and the craft of building software that lasts. The series has grown, and we think it deserves a dedicated home.
On the new channel, you'll find:
- Conversations with people who shape the developer community
- Practical insights from real-world engineering
- Topics across C++, Qt, Rust, embedded systems, architecture and more
Get your headphones on, check it out and subscribe.
The KDAB channel will continue with our established formats, including tutorials, technical deep dives and news updates.
AI, Code Quality and the Future
of Developers
An Interview with Klaus Iglberger
AI can generate code. But what does it take to build software you can trust?
In this episode of The Curious Developer, KDAB’s Jesper Pedersen talks with Klaus Iglberger about AI-assisted software development, software design, and why human expertise still matters. From small refactoring tasks to safety-critical systems, they explore where AI can help and where generating more code can create more problems.
October Video Releases
What’s new in Qt 6.12 and what does it mean for your next project? Jesper Pedersen welcomes Maycon Stamboroski and Ulf Hermann from Qt Group for a candid discussion of the latest Qt release, from GPU-accelerated 2D drawing to a new approach to styling Qt Quick and Widgets applications.
The conversation explores what Qt 6.12 brings as a long-term support release, which features are ready for production, and which are still evolving. Expect technical explanations, questions about API design and developer workflows, and the occasional disagreement about where application state belongs.
How Much Freedom Should a UI
Framework Give You?
A QML Theming Experiment
Nuno Pinheiro, Senior UX/UI Designer, follows one idea from Inkscape mockups to a working prototype with real transparency, a texture lit by a light that follows the mouse, and buttons that deform when you press them.
Walking through the code, built with Shape, a styled Qt Quick Controls Button and MultiEffect, he looks at flexibility cost, and argues that good tools should leave room for exploration, including bad ideas.
Embedded C++ Development in CLion
Toolchains, CMake, and Remote Debugging
Joshua Goins shows how to set up an embedded toolchain and CMake profile, deploying an application over SSH, and configuring remote debugging with GDB server.
Using a Toradex i.MX6 board, Joshua demonstrates how to build locally and debug on the target hardware from within CLion.
To follow along, you’ll need a configured Linux device, an SDK installed on your development machine, and GDB server installed on the target.
Below, you will find an overview of training courses up until the end of this year.
Whether you are looking to deepen your knowledge or get started with new skills, KDAB has got a range of courses to choose from. Looking to plan well ahead? Courses scheduled until December 2027 can be found here.
Advanced Modern C++ - Nov 24, 2026, Berlin, Germany (3 days, English)
The primary goal of the Advanced Modern C++ training course is to help you understand how the latest advancements in C++ can significantly enhance your coding abilities. We will explore a wide range of modern features, techniques, and best practices that can make your codebase better organized, easier to maintain, and more intuitive to reason about.
