Sci-Fi superstar Neal Stephenson to speak at SOSV Deep Tech Summit

Neal Stephenson has been weaving AI-themes into his novels from the start. Snow Crash (1992) previewed conversational AI interfaces and agentic assistants, and Diamond Age (1995) imagines a nanotech and AI-powered book that tutors children to become autonomous, critical thinkers. In Fall; or, Dodge in Hell (2009), Stephenson builds out a societal hellscape brought on by bot swarms that results in a badly bifurcated society. You could say Stephenson’s future is not too far off, if not already here.

Jason Pontin, former editor of MIT Technology Review and now general partner at DCVC, will talk with Stephenson about how he sizes up our AI present and future.
