How I'd Get Into Software in 2026
Hey John Doe,
"Should I get into software engineering?" I'm hearing this from people (for themselves or their kids). My answer is nuanced. Let me tell you what I'd do if I were starting from scratch today.
Frankly, yes, coding is over. But that doesn't mean we give up. If I were starting today, I'd work on two skills right now. First, understanding and designing systems. I'd pull up an agent and sketch out how the DoorDash app works. Second, communicating intent: the what and the why, the constraints, and a way for the agent to verify its work.
But I can't promise those skills will matter six months from now. But I do think there's something you can do to make yourself not only survive but thrive in a changing landscape. And that's what I talk about in this video.
