Quick Tips: uv + ty - Sync and Type-Check in One Command

Plus sort data larger than RAM with Polars 2.0

Grab your coffee. Here are this week's highlights.

๐Ÿ“… Today's Picks

Polars 2.0 - Sort Datasets Larger Than RAM Without Crashing

Code example: Polars 2.0 - Sort Datasets Larger Than RAM Without Crashing
Problem

Memory-intensive operations such as sorting, window functions, and complex expressions can require more RAM than your machine has available.

Solution

Polars 2.0 automatically moves supported operations from memory to disk when they use roughly 80% of your available RAM.

Joins and group-by operations do not yet support spilling to disk.

uv + ty - Sync and Type-Check in One Command

Code example: uv + ty - Sync and Type-Check in One Command
Problem

uv prepares the environment your code runs in, while ty checks the code for type errors.

Using them separately requires two commands every time you check the code. It is also easy to forget to run one.

Solution

The uv-ty integration combines both steps with uv check, available in uv 0.12.3 and later.
