4 ways to be awesome in Excel & your work
Hi ,
How are you doing?
I hope you are enjoying our newsletter and learning new things about Excel, data analysis, charting & dashboards every week.
Today let me share with you few secrets and tips on becoming awesome in Excel & your work.
Do not focus on learning Excel alone: Sounds strange right? But I think learning Excel alone is almost useless. Instead you should focus on learning how to apply Excel for your business / work needs. Anyone can memorize things like, 'Which ribbon has page formatting options?' or 'which keyboard shortcut finds all blank cells?'. But few people can actually apply all the thousands of features in Excel to do things better in their work.. And that is key to your success as well.
Invest in story telling, communication skills as well. Learning how to present, how to write and how to talk can be of great help. Conveying ideas in short but powerful ways is more important in today's world. Resources: Charting principles & Excel Dashboards pages on Chandoo.org
Develop strong design (UI) sense. Most spreadsheets are like small user interfaces that your bosses, colleagues or clients will use to get what they want. So spend some time learning how to create clear, simple & intuitive user interfaces. Resources: Non-Designer's Design Book, Don't Make Me Think (book)
Keep learning. Excel & various other office communication applications are constantly evolving. So you should invest time every week (or month) to learn new ideas. By joining our newsletter, you have taken this step already. But do not stay passive. Visit your favorite Excel blog and pick up a new idea or two. Implement them in your day to day work so that you can impress someone.
Thank you once again for joining us. Wishing you awesomeness in everything you do.
Yours,
Chandoo
