Why 3on3 Creates Better Decisions
What’s up, Coach!
One reason I believe so strongly in 3on3 is simple:
Players can't hide.
With fewer players on the floor, everyone has to be involved.
They have to read:
Where is the help?
Where is the open space?
Should I drive, pass or move?
What happens after I give the ball up?
That's where the development happens.
But there's an important difference between simply playing 3v3 and actually teaching through 3v3.
The goal isn't to roll the ball out and hope players figure everything out.
Give the game a purpose.
Want better cutting?
Reward scores that come after a pass-and-cut.
Want paint touches?
Require the offense to get the ball into the paint before shooting.
Want quicker decisions?
Limit the dribble.
The constraint creates the problem.
The players learn to solve it.
That's how we use 3v3 to teach the game.
