Do iOS is three weeks away. I lock the headcount on 27 October.
Hi,
Do iOS starts in three weeks. Tuesday 10 November is the workshop day at the NEMO Science Museum in Amsterdam. Wednesday 11 and Thursday 12 November are the conference days.
I have to give the venue a final number of attendees a week from now, on 27 October. If you are coming, buy your ticket this week so you are in that number.
Tickets, the agenda, and the practical details are at do-ios.com.
Three passes:
- workshop only (10 November)
- conference (11–12 November)
- or both.
Daniel Steinberg and I host again. Tuesday is two full-day workshops, both hands-on. Bring a Mac. Daniel covers Foundation Models. Peter Friese covers production-ready AI with Foundation Models, Gemini, and Firebase.
The talk days are the work that came back from the Call for Papers: Foundation Models, SwiftUI, visionOS in production, App Intents, security, and a few sessions I have not published yet.
I wrote the dates, the venue, and the lineup up here: Do iOS 2026: Dates, NEMO, and the Lineup.
This month on the blog
The last note listed a few of these by title. Here is the month, including what landed since.
- Fail the build when a translation goes stale A missing Dutch string, a catalog entry Xcode has marked stale, or a placeholder that survived in English and disappeared in French should fail the build. I would rather see that in the log than as a raw key on a phone.
- Trusting Swift macros on Xcode Cloud A macro you trusted once on your Mac is a different decision on a clean cloud image. The plugin skip does not cover it. Commit the fingerprint.
- Five and a half years of Being a Lead Software Developer A new edition went out on 13 October. The first edition was 18 March 2021. This one adds the Lead Dev + AI inserts. Leanpub buyers already have the update. The book page is here.
- Ship the Fallback First The Do iOS lineup came back full of Foundation Models. This is the step after the tutorial: a note that suggests a tag and a title, and still saves when the on-device model is missing, still downloading, or slow.
- Swift scripts for Xcode and Xcode Cloud A beta ribbon, TestFlight notes from merged pull requests, and checks that have to run on a clean build machine. The Swift compiler that ships with Xcode is enough. Homebrew is not a plan on the Xcode Cloud images I get.
See you in Amsterdam.
