Wouldn't it be great to use new features?
Hello Mailwal,
In many companies, C++11 is still the standard set and used as the default. A company probably finds 351 reasons why they can't switch to a newer version of C++. It's understandable but also painful for the code.
As long as it works, everything is fine.
Legacy standards are known and provide certainty. One more year has passed, and the code has gotten more complicated. Problems with the code start to show up.
Your code:
- becomes incomprehensible
- becomes harder to maintain
- compiles with warnings as errors occur
It's the moment when you might try to improve your code yourself. "Wouldn't it be great to use modern standards?" you think, and you try to implement new features.
You find out that new elements seem way too complex to write robust code that is easy to understand.
Your compiler still demands simple, bug-free code. Frustrating.
What if it was easy to write clean code that is easy to maintain?
The good news isthat knowing older standards like C++11 gives you a solid foundation for learning modern code with new features.
You can start right away.
